Hi Folks, as you can see, I'm a first timer to Parga. Will be going in June so looking for some info from my learned forum members.

We'll be staying at the Parga Beach Hotel. I've heard some pretty mixed reports but at the end of the day, not too fussed as it's only somewhere to sleep, wash and change as we'll be beaching it most of the day, and hitting the tavernas in the evening for a meal etc.

    A few questions:
How long is the walk from the hotel to the town?
Is there a taxi service or water taxi available?
Are there any reasonable bars near the hotel where the price of a beer isn't a rip off?
Can anyone recommend a couple of good tavernas where you can get reasonably priced traditional greek food?
Is it worth hiring a car for a couple of days to see the neighbouring areas/beaches and if so do you know a reputable car hire firm. Thanks in advance

    Hello Tel Boy,
Can I say firstly, as a "First Timer" I hope your holiday is more than enjoyable and that I hope you too will fall under Parga's "spell" and become a permanent "re visitor" as many before you have done.
The walk from your hotel to Parga Town (shortest route) is up and over the hill and should take no longer than 15 minutes (of course dependant on the time of day,) but judging by your "beaching it" comment I'm presuming that it would be mostly in the evenings. Of course there are shops all the way down the steps into Parga town so with a few stops along the way...it could take longer! (still you are on holiday, so why worry?) There are both Taxi and water taxi's availableto get you both ways too should you not feel energetic enough to walk, and plenty of car & scooter hire places too should you want to travel that way.
Bars? plenty to choose from.. from your Hotel bar, to up and over the hill, to town there are some on the way down the steps and once there you'll be spoilt for choice. Prices in most of the bars are pretty standard. On your walk over, at the top of the hill you will find Stefanos Restaurant/Taverna.. great for Fresh (daily caught) fish and traditional Greek fare and views over Valtos beach to eat by! Also at that level are several other Good Taverna's "Three Plane Trees" and "Romantica" to name but two.
Yes If you fancy a few short journey's out to neighbouring areas a car can be a good idea: Contact Sandra at Parga-Car hire for reasonable rates
