It seems like every day there is a religious holiday in Greece!
Because there are so many saints, each one has it's own "name day".
Most Greeks are named after a saint, so on the name day of the particular saint, the person
who is celebrating treats friends and relatives to either sweets, a dinner or drink out, or , as is the usual custom, opens up their home to all who would like to come by and wish "xronia polla!"(years many). The list of name days is too extensive to put in this space, so we will list some of the key holidays in the Greek Orthodox religious calendar:
